An interior design expert has claimed that homeowners can make the most of their kitchen by adding plenty of lighting.
Louise Rocco, interior stylist and managing director at Hot House Interiors said lighting plays a "key role" in the kitchen and can even make it look bigger.
She recommends options such as under-cabinet lighting in particular to achieve this effect, telling ukflooringdirect.co.uk: "Lighting channels fitted beneath shelving is a great way to achieve this, plus are a discreet solution that can double up as both task and mood lighting."
Other features decorators could include to add a modern touch include granite worktops, cafe-style shutters and bamboo flooring. Talking about this flooring style, Ms Rocco claims that the surface can help rooms to look unique and complements any changes made to the lighting.
She recommends having the surface in black to make a real statement, or using golden bamboo surfaces if homeowners want a theme running throughout the room. The flooring material is also suitable for those after environmentally-friendly measures as it is made from grass instead of conventional wood.
It has also been reported by worthkitchen.com this week that greys, greens and reds are amongst the colours set to be the most popular shades for the kitchen in 2013, with the site claiming greys can help rooms to appear modern and edgy, whilst reds can make kitchens seem "warmer".
