Open shelving a new kitchen trend, says expert

A design expert has hailed open shelving as a new trend.
Zillow Digs Board of Designers member Kerrie Kelly told huffingtonpost.com this week: "Kitchen cabinets used to be the place to stash dinnerware out of sight, but...upgrades will put kitchenware on display in the coming year."
She continued: "It is now fashionable to display almost everything in the kitchen - from dishes to pots and pans to gourmet oils and vinegars."
Ms Kelly said that black worktops were also becoming extremely popular - especially in materials such as quartz and black granite. She recommended that anyone using a dark worktop in their kitchen should match it with lighter cabinets for a greater contrast.
Another colour tip given by the expert was that dark shades are becoming more popular for kitchens. This includes shades such as deep browns, coppers and reds. However, another article published onutsandiego.com this week disagreed with this statement, claiming that grey was the hot colour for next year.
The writer states that people should move away from wooden brown shades as this can "date" interiors and urged homeowners to instead try delicate shades, such as grey, because they can look a lot more clean, simple and elegant.
