UK homeowners most likely to renovate their kitchens, survey finds
A new survey has revealed that the kitchen is the most popular renovation by UK homeowners.
According to stride.co.uk, 42 per cent of homeowners said they had carried out a kitchen renovation in the last three years, closely followed by bathroom makeovers at 41 per cent.
Other popular choices included: new boiler or central heating (31 per cent), an extension (18 per cent), garden makeover (11 per cent), solar panels (eight per cent) and attic conversion (six per cent), reportspropertywire.com.
Price comparison website, Gocompare, who conducted the research, found that despite renovations being popular, 43 per cent of those who’d recently had a renovation had not told their home insurance provider. Consequently, if anything did happen to their home, they might not be able to make a claim on it, as the insurance would be deemed invalid.
Gocompare home insurance spokesperson, Mark Greening, said that home renovations can help improve the value of a home, as well as make better use of the space but cautioned homeowners may need to update their home insurance policy.
“For example, new kitchen cabinets and worktops are usually installed around a new cooker and other domestic appliances, increasing both the value of the property’s rebuilding costs and household contents,” he said.
