‘Great British Bake Off’ boosts Christmas kitchen gadget sales
Kitchen gadgets are set to rise further in popularity as Christmas gifts this years, thanks to baking show ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
According to theguardian.com, in some shops sales of high-end kitchen gadgets are growing faster than tablet computers. In fact Dixons reports that juicers, mixers and coffee machine sales are rising by more than 80 per cent every year.
Waitrose has also seen its sales of must-have kitchen products rise; reporting that sales of sieves, preserving jars, biscuit cutters and mixing bowls have risen by over 50 per cent, reports hereisthecity.com.
Market analyst GfK reports that overall, in the year to October, expensive kitchen gadget sales rose by 5.7 per cent and the number of smaller kitchen product sales has also increased for the first time in three years.
Other than the popularity of cooking shows, it’s believed that more people are spending money on kitchen gadgets because they want to save money by cooking at home instead of going out to eat.
A spokesperson for John Lewis explained just how big an impact celebrity chefs and TV shows can have on the sales of kitchen products.
“We have seen a trend for home comforts, food preparation and entertaining at home promoted by TV programmes such as ‘Masterchef’. It’s no longer enough to watch celebrity chefs using the tricks of the trade to create stunning dishes,” they said.
