Bespoke Kitchen Worktops

At County Stone, we set out to get kitchen worktops absolutely right for each individual client. That means providing a bespoke made to measure kitchen worktop service based on talking with customers about what they want providing advice based on our experience of working with the finest stone worktops discussing alternative approaches agreeing on materials, shapes and details of the installation

A bespoke worktop gives a kitchen an unbeatable sense of individuality. The way your kitchen feels helps to make it a lovely place to prepare and enjoy great meals, to natter over coffee or a glass of wine, or to kick back for a spot of ‘me’ time.

Bespoke Worktops for a Truly Personalized Kitchen

Putting a personal stamp on your home is what makes it special. Give it love and attention, and you’ll be repaid with a sense of pride and pleasure for many years.

Today, the kitchen is the most lived in part of the home, and personalising your kitchen is probably the most effective way to make your home feel very special. Whatever the shape and size of your kitchen, there is always an opportunity to give it a look that’s entirely yours. A beautiful, individual worktop is one of the key elements in the design mix.

A bespoke approach also allows you to create a look that matches the style of your kitchen and home, from beamed and traditional to sharp and contemporary, and every style in between.

By contrast, ready made, ‘standard fit’ worktops will give a kitchen an unfinished look. Without a made-to-measure approach, a worktop will be fitted in a space that’s probably too big, or will be shoe-horned into too tight an area. The result won’t look great, and will likely have impractical aspects, like gaps for crumbs and spills to drop into, or overhangs you bump into. In the short term, you’ll save money, but you’re always likely to be less than satisfied and eager to change.

Made to Measure Worktop Stonemasonry and Installation at County Stone

Made to measure worktops need skill and experience. At County Stone we have been sourcing, preparing and fitting the finest stone worktops for over 20 years, and have our own team of expert stonemasons and fitters.

The first thing to get right is the choice of materials (see below). We’ll guide you through the options and the different looks you can achieve. We’ll also give you the full picture on the different types of maintenance requirements for natural and manufactured stones. All of our stone worktops will stand up to the wear and tear of life in a busy kitchen.

Measuring up for custom worktops

The next step is to send our fitting team to your home. They’ll measure up and create a pinpoint accurate template for your installation, including corners, curves and every nook and cranny. The detail that goes into the template is the only way to make sure of a perfect fit, without gaps and imperfect joins.

How do stonemasons cut bespoke worktops?

The stone cutting team at County Stone will follow the template precisely, working with state-of-the-art diamond-tipped cutting equipment. Unfinished stone slabs are used to create continuous runs with apertures for sinks and plumbing as needed. Where worktops need to be supplied in sections, precision work ensures that every element fits together in the neatest way possible.

Once cut, we tool the edges you require – bevelled, rounded or other options – and finish the surface of the stone to the agreed specification, from high gloss to matt, smooth or textured. We usually treat the stone with a single application of protective, invisible sealant which guards against stains and scratches. The stone is then packed in protective material ready to be delivered to your home.

How we fit made-to-measure kitchen worktops

Our fitting team knows all about the challenges of handling such heavy material, including keeping it scratch-free and in perfect condition. They will install your worktop and make sure all gaps are closed, joins are all but invisible and splashbacks are fitted. They won’t leave until you are happy with the way it fits and looks, and they’ll leave your kitchen perfectly clean and tidy.

Materials and stones for bespoke worktops

At County Stone, we specialise in the finest stones for bespoke kitchen worktops. Our countertops combine excellent durability with supreme looks, and once fitted by our expert team will help to make your kitchen stand out for years or even decades.

Natural granite is where we started, and we continue to supply beautifully veined and coloured examples, prepared to endure kitchen life and catch the eye. We also work with lustrous natural quartzite in a range of patterns and colours. All granite and quartzite worktops are quarried from natural deposits, and each one is unique, even if cut from the same block. Nature doesn’t work in uniform ways, and if a natural feel is your aim, granite and quartzite are likely to be the way to go.

Manufactured stones, on the other hand, can be made with a range of natural or neat looks which can be repeated exactly across different slabs. Quartz is a high performance, popular choice that comes in many variations of patterns, plains and colours. We work with leading suppliers of quartz including Caesarstone, Arenastone and Silestone.

The most resilient type of stone worktops are ceramic. Also known as sintered stone, these worktops are created in stone factories by super-heating ceramic fragments under massive pressure to produce ultra-compacted slabs which will stand up to virtually anything. We supply ceramic worktops created by leading manufacturers such as Dekton and Lapitec.

All the stones we work with can be fitted with bespoke precision in every kitchen. Your choice will come down to preferences for colours, patterns, functionality and price. We will provide you with all the details you need to reach the right decision!

Bespoke Worktop FAQs

Bespoke kitchen worktops involve accurate pinpoint accuracy in measuring, cutting and fitting. If there’s any lack of precision, the result will be a major disappointment with the likelihood of gaps and misalignment.

The worktop needs to be handled with care during preparation, transport and fitting, even though they can be extremely heavy and challenging to manoeuvre. Fitting teams need to be meticulous and have plenty of muscle! If the worktop rocks when fitted, even slightly, there is the risk if cracking so we always ensure that our worktops sit perfectly on the cupboard carcass or supports.

It is very difficult, if not impossible, to match the combination of durability and wonderful looks that you can achieve with stone, whether natural or manufactured. The range of stones available means that you can achieve exactly the look you want, with many options on how much you spend as well.

Prices are based on a combination of basic material costs plus transport, finishing and fitting. While we are happy to give guide prices per m2, an accurate quote needs to be based on your final specifications. The best way to see what your kitchen worktop will set you back is to contact us for a quote.
