Quartz Worktops for Kitchens

It’s no surprise that in-the-know homeowners and interior designers choose top quality quartz worktops for kitchens. The combination of stunning looks, impressive durability and easy maintenance makes quartz a popular choice.

Quartz worktops are made from a very high proportion – up to 95% – of incredibly hard quartz crystals blended with resin for flexibility and structure, and pigments for colour. The effects that can be achieved by the best manufacturers are exceptional, and can be used for looks that range from clean and sleek to ornate and decorative.

Why choose a quartz kitchen worktop?

Natural Quartz countertops do three things for your kitchen. They make the busiest room in the house look elegant and timelessly smart. They last almost forever. And they’re so easy to keep hygienically clean and stain-free. Whether you are entertaining, cooking, eating, relaxing or working in your kitchen, quartz helps to create a room that’s a pleasure to be in.

When you decide on quartz, it’s important to bear two things in mind. Firstly, choose the quality of quartz slab your kitchen deserves. It will last such a long time that it is vital to be happy with your choice and compromising on materials will likely come back to haunt you. The second point is that you should make sure it is properly prepared and fitted by genuine experts. However lovely the stone, if it’s badly installed it will be a constant source of dissatisfaction when it should be a source of long-term pleasure.

How to look after quartz worktops

Keeping your engineered stone quartz worktop looking as good as the day it is installed is very simple but it does mean following a few basic rules.

The material is extremely hard and nonporous, but it has its limits. A cast-iron casserole, for example, which slips from your hands, can chip the surface or edges. Hot pans straight from the hob can leave marks on the solid surface, mainly due to affecting the resin in the worktop. The best advice is simply to use a metal or silicone trivet.

It is also best to keep your countertop clean with a daily wipe down for stain resistance and to wipe away any spills straightaway to avoid any risk of staining. Microfibre or e-cloths are highly recommended, with purpose-made cleaners also the best option for dried-in stains.

Quartz Worktop FAQs

When it comes to kitchen countertops, the decision between quartz and granite can be a tough one. While both materials have their respective advantages, many professionals agree that quartz is the superior option. One of the biggest reasons for this is the fact that quartz is engineered, meaning that it is not only durable and long-lasting, but also non-porous and resistant to stains. In comparison, granite is natural and porous, making it more prone to stains and requiring more maintenance. Additionally, quartz is highly customizable in terms of colour and pattern, allowing homeowners to find the perfect match for their kitchen design. All in all, while granite may have been the go-to choice in the past, quartz’s many benefits make it a compelling option for any modern kitchen renovation.

At County Stone, we offer quartz kitchen worktops from £260 per m2 rising to over £1000 per m2. Remember, a variety of worktops can be used for different parts of the kitchen such as sink areas and islands. Ask us today for a quote on quartz worktop prices.

Quartz worktops which are properly installed dramatically enhance the look of any kitchen. They are so practical and durable too that they will always enhance the appeal of your kitchen to prospective buyers, and can help to justify an increased asking price for your home. They can also be a source of enduring pleasure for homeowners, so whether you are moving or staying in your home they will always be a sound investment.

At County Stone we source our quartz with great care from trusted producers. The way the quartz is mined, and the techniques used for creating a composite with resin, pigments and glass, have a direct effect on the appearance and of the stone, and we only work with companies who operate at the highest standard. Needless to say, just as the source is important, so is the way the quartz is treated by sawmen, fabricators, polishers and finishers.

Worktops are such an important part of the kitchen. Quartz colours generally reflect the colours found in natural landscapes which are perfect paired with the painted colours of kitchen units and walls. White or very pale worktops help to create a very clean, modern look. Contrasting black or dark grey quartz combined with pale units and walls are strikingly dramatic and are currently very popular. Natural colours – beige, browns and subtle greens – are also highly sought after, especially by customers wanting continuity with the colours in their gardens beyond the kitchen window.

We can supply quartz worktops in thicknesses of 30mm, 20mm and thinner. Broadly speaking, the slimmer the worktop the more sleek and modern the look, and thinner worktops certainly help to create a sense of space in smaller kitchens.
